The Northcote Road Antiques Market opened in 1986 and has 30 friendly and knowledgeable dealers selling a wide range of antiques, vintage and retro items. The centre is staffed exclusively by the people who trade from there and you will always find at least 4 or 5 of them in attendance at any given time. This means you have every opportunity of meeting the person who owns the item for sale and who can offer information on it’s history and provenance. Most of us are local people and a number have been trading since the centre opened.
The Market is well known locally and is often referred to as ‘Northcote Road’s best kept secret’. Despite having a small frontage, once inside you discover a variety of attractively laid out stalls covering an extensive area over two floors, provoking innumerable ‘Tardis’ and ‘Aladdin’s Cave’ remarks.
Many customers visit on a regular basis to browse amongst the treasures or when they are restyling their homes, moving house or just to purchase a unique object. Countless homes in London can boast an original item bought from the Market such as an old English pine or beautifully grained mahogany chest of drawers, a reupholstered period chair, an unusual lamp, a stylish mirror, an interesting piece of studio pottery or some antique champagne glasses.
