Richard and his wife Sue took the decision to follow their passion for organic food, by opening The Yard on Northcote Road in August 2007. The couple have lived in London 11 years. Both were previously working long hours in the City. Richard found he was eating too many microwave meals and other junk food. Encouraged to change his eating habits by Sue's persistence, Richard decided to improve his diet and eventually realised just how bad those meals were - especially in terms of salt content. The more he learned, the more he became convinced that consuming organic produce where possible, is the best option for all ages. It soon became clear though, that for busy people who wanted to consume more organic food, but didn't have much time or kitchen know-how, the options were very limited. And so the concept for The Yard was born.

The most important thing to this couple is that the food is top quality - from the ingredients through to preparation. A lot of effort went into finding the right suppliers for The Yard, but Richard tells me this is only the first step and their constant focus is on ensuring the meals exceed expectation. The Yard is glad to have a fantastic new chef and all the team work hard to make sure his recipes get implemented properly. At this store, customers can expect to find delicious, top quality ready-to-cook meals all made fresh on-site. Soups, sides, sauces, prepared veggies, salads, kids meals and baby-food - an excellent service and top produce for all tastes. The Yard also runs a take-away and delivery pizza service, so you can pop in, choose your toppings, watch them make it and then bake & eat at home - so it's hot in your house, not in a box. Or you can call them and have a ready-to-bake, natural fresh pizza delivered free to your door. This team make eating healthy easy and at a very reasonable price - now we really have no excuse!

Most of customers are busy mothers and discerning professionals - and indeed, whenever I go into the store at lunch times there are plenty of little ones enjoying the sandwich bar and people browsing the many cooler cabinets jammed full of healthy options. The Yard team are continuously working on the menu to make sure it's seasonal and that they always stock exciting choices. This really is a natural, convenient food store and the Northcote Road community has welcomed it warmly. Richard says this area has a rare community feel and he and his wife find the local life very appealing. Living just across the road from their store, they are happy to be part of a street full of great retail businesses, where there is something for everyone.
